Volunteer teaching opportunities with After18: Could you spare a few hours a week to share your skills and enrich the life of a young person? After18 is a Leicester-based charity working to support young refugees and asylum seekers transition from childhood to adulthood and prepare for their future. We provide specialist information, emotional and practical support and a wide range of educational and social activities.
Our education activities include a bi-weekly drop-in offering homework support, beginners ICT and English language tuition. We also run a bi-weekly group for newly arrived young people while they wait for a place at school or college, providing beginner English and Maths.
In addition we run several activities designed to support young people’s wellbeing, including a weekly support group for vulnerable young women and girls, and an art and photography club.
We are looking for volunteers for the following roles:
- Art and photography club support (Monday evening)
- Maths beginner to A Level (Thursday evening)
- Young women’s group support (Friday evening)
- Entry and GCSE level English teaching (Monday day or Thursday evening)
- Science (combined, as well as biology, chemistry and physics) teaching at all levels (Wednesday or Thursday evening)
- ICT (Wednesday evening)
Volunteers applying for teaching roles must have previous teaching/tutoring experience (or for the ICT support, some experience explaining computers/technology). After18 is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children and young people we work with. All staff and volunteers are required to undertake an enhanced criminal record check before joining us.
