Photographic Archive Volunteer

Opportunity image

If you are interested in the photographic record of a city changing over 70 years this might be the perfect volunteering opportunity for you. The archive team are creating a digital archive that is being used in exhibitions, online and across the city on heritage panels.

Volunteers handle and sort negatives before scanning them into the archive. They document and catalogue the photographs, helping to identify locations and date images, create databases and then help with queries and projects around the archive.

As a volunteer you would be trained to handle the photographic negative collection, use the scanners and software and would be able to play an active role in helping shape the archive and its use in exhibitions and projects going forward.

The archive currently contains over 100,000 images with thousands more to be discovered.

The role is very flexible and takes place at Leicester Museum & Art Gallery and there are both morning and afternoon shifts Monday to Friday.
